An Omani airline SalamAir plans to launch a new route to Tehran.
SalamAir’s new Iran service will begin on June 9 and connect Muscat with the capital city, Tehran.
It is the second destination offered by the airline after Shiraz in southern Iran. Operating three times a week on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, the two hours and 35-minute flight from Muscat International Airport will depart at 3.05 p.m. and arrive at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport at 6.10 p.m.
The return journey will leave Tehran at 6.55 p.m. and touch down in Muscat at 9 p.m. Tickets are available at www.SalamAir.com, Oman Daily Observer reported.
SalamAir is a low-cost airline based at Muscat International Airport. It operates flights to regional destinations. The airline is also reportedly planning to fly to Mashhad as of September 2019.
The report added that besides new flights to Tehran, SalamAir also plans to establish direct flights to Istanbul and Trabzon in Turkey.
SalamAir’s twice-weekly service from Muscat to Istanbul will begin on July 3 and fly on Wednesdays and Sundays, while the Muscat to Trabzon option starts on July 1 and operates both ways on Mondays and Fridays.
Addressing a gathering of 120 Iranian and Omani businesspersons in Muscat earlier this month, Iran's Ambassador in Muscat Mohammad Reza Nouri Shahroudi referred to the significant increase in the number of direct flights between the two neighbors from 20 to 48 per week and said the expansion of marine transportation between the two countries also follows the similar plan to boost Tehran-Muscat economic interactions.
Iran and Oman are set to add a new direct shipping route between their ports in the Persian Gulf to help boost bilateral economic interactions.
Iran and Oman traded $1.16 billion worth of goods in the last Iranian year that ended on March 20. The trade volume saw the second highest growth (51.16%) among Iran's 15 neighboring countries.
