An MoU was signed between Iran’ Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) and Islamic Chamber Research and Information Center (ICRIC) to boost and develop the notion of Halal Tourism at both national and international levels. The agreement is also meant to support Halal tourism through practical studies and research and composition of globally accepted standards, and to prepare a comprehensive plan for Halal tourism. Morteza Rahmani Movahed, tourism deputy of ICHHTO and Mehdi Fakheri, secretary general of ICRIC signed the MoU. Both sides are committed to holding short and long-term training programs related to Halal tourism and expand academic and research interaction with universities and research centers of other countries. A joint working group is to prioritize, schedule, and supervise the implementation of the agreement and estimate the costs. ICRIC is the only authority to issue Halal permits appointed by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). Its secretariat is located in Tehran.
