A touring initiative titled "Tehran With You" aimed at school students was officially unveiled on Saturday in a ceremony attended by urban and education officials.

The plan has been organized by Tehran Gasht Arghavani Company, affiliated to Tehran Municipality's Cultural and Artistic Organization, and seeks to familiarize students in Tehran with the city's cultural, historical, religious and artistic assets as well as its luminaries, IRNA reported.

The CAO had earlier inked a memorandum of understanding with the School Students Organization of the Education Ministry in July with the purpose of increasing schoolchildren's role in management of cultural affairs.

"In an agreement with the cultural department of the Education Ministry and the SSO, it was set that we promote Tehran's attractions among students and allow them to use cultural centers and house museums under CAO," Saeid Ohadi, president of the organization, said during the inauguration ceremony.

Given Tehran's huge capacity in terms of attractions, 29 to 30 tours have been planned which Ohadi hoped will contribute to the economy and employment opportunities in the city and help raise public spirit.

Ahmad Masjed-Jamei, a member of the cultural and social commission of Tehran City Council who was present at the event, proposed the initiation of the plan on Tehran Day on October 6.

"The student tours could start on Tehran Day which could be then extended to a week so as to promote vitality among students," he said.

  Proposal to Augment Trips

He urged the organizers of the tours to give attention to features such as purposefulness, variety and gaiety in the trips.

"Involving students in the selection of touring routes, making use of their vernacular in the programs, introducing jobs and providing reliable information are also of high importance," he said.

Pointing out that Tehran has 1,000 attractions and touring routes, the city councilor suggested 120 itineraries and destinations which students could go either on foot or by a car depending on conditions.

"Besides introducing attractions, we could also explain the problems so that they develop a deep understanding of particular subjects along with gaining information," he said.

At the end of the ceremony, the stamp of "Tehran with You" touring initiative was unveiled and signed by Ohadi, Masjed-Jamei, Hassan Khalil Abadi, head of the cultural heritage and tourism committee of the City Council, and some other officials.
