A geo-physical survey started to identify the archaeological layers of Soltanieh fortress, encompassing the largest brick dome in the world, IRNA quoted the director of the archaeological site Alireza Razeqi as saying. The operation aims to provide insight into the archaeological depths of the area, helping experts prioritize the explorations on the site. The geo-physical survey followed the restorative operations on Soltanie dome that started two weeks ago. The survey will enable the archaeologists to obtain imagery of different archaeological layers of the area, without excavation and physical exploration. The advanced technique will quickly provide the experts with the knowledge of the layers and their depth. The excavations that follow, will be conducted accordingly, Razeqi said. The geo-physical survey of the historical fortress was first made in north-south direction. The northern axis of the site was inaugurated in March 2014 to be visited by the public.
