Glass Art Center to Open in Tehran

A multi-purpose crafts complex covering various branches of glass artworks is to be established in Tehran, a top official with the provincial office of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization said. The project was devised following a memorandum of understanding between Tehran's ICHHTO office and District 9 Municipality to promote handicrafts in the capital. It will be composed of workshops, packaging centers, artwork stores, marketing centers, administrative offices, a green space area and parking lots and will specialize in different branches of glasswork from production to sale, Mohammad Ensha'ei, the provincial handicrafts deputy, was quoted as saying by the travel news website Donyaye Safar. "A wide range of glass art techniques will be trained and practiced in the center, including glassblowing, glass carving, vitrail, glass engraving, as well as glass fusing." The complex will be built in an area of 3,000 square meters. "Master architecture and handicrafts experts will oversee the construction process to ensure Iranian elements are employed in the building based on the most up-to-date global standards." According to the official, the complex will officially start operation by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2019).
