Tehran-Ankara Train to Roll Soon

A direct Tehran-Ankara rail connection is to be launched within a month, after final coordination with the Turkish authorities, the director general of Iran's Azarbaijan Railway Network said.

"Over 95% of the route's infrastructures are currently completed and it will officially start operation in a month," Rail News quoted Shapour Arsalani as saying.

"The authorities only need to make final negotiations with Turkish officials on some technical issues, the type of train cars, capacity, tickets and such," he added.

The effort has been in line with broader policies focused on strengthening connectivity between the two states and promoting the tourism industry.

Early last week, another rail link was launched between Tabriz in East Azarbaijan Province and Van in Turkey. It leaves Tabriz for Van on a weekly basis on Mondays and returns the next day.
