The 24th tourist train, which recently entered the country through Sarakhs border crossing in northeastern Khorasan Razavi Province, will continue its tour of Iran’s travel spots until April 20.
Co-operated by British Golden Eagle Luxury Trains Company and Tehran-based Pasargadtour travel agency, “Golden Eagle” is the first train bringing foreign tourists from Canada, Britain, Australia, Denmark, Italy, Singapore, Peru and Malaysia to the country in the new Iranian year, which began on March 21.
According to Ali Kazemimanesh, director for planning and monitoring rail services, the train started its journey from Moscow, passed through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, continuing its way to Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi, Kashan and Isfahan in Isfahan Province.
On Friday it reached Yazd and will keep on across Kerman and Fars provinces as well as Shush and Garmeh in Khuzestan Province, CHTN reported.
The train will finally visit Tehran before leaving the country, the official said. The 12-car Golden Eagle carries a total of 71 tourists and crew.
A tourist train is not intended as a practical means of transportation, but as a museum-style attraction to see, as an activity to do, or a means of employing historical dining or sleeper train cars to eat or sleep for novelty or entertainment purposes. Given the popularity of tourist trains across the world, Iran’s national railroads company is endeavoring to catch up with other countries. Recently, the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways embarked on several new projects to expand tourist trains across Iran in cooperation with private tourist companies.
In September 2017, a train named “1001 Nights” started operation and carried travelers from Algeria, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Australia, Britain, India, France, Belgium, Austria and Russia through Yazd, Isfahan, Fars and Tehran over a week.
