A festival was held in the village of Abyaneh in Isfahan Province this week to celebrate the official inscription of its local apparel on the List of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The move is aimed at encouraging locals to appreciate and wear their native costumes to maintain the traditional fabric of the village.
The clothes are unique in terms of the variety of colors as well as the beautiful scenes of Nature and rural landscape that are reflected in their design, ISNA reported.
The traditional costumes mainly consist of long black and baggy trousers for men and a long dress of colorful floral design for women, complemented by a white scarf.
Ahmad Najibi, head of Abyaneh cultural heritage base, hoped the spiritual value of the traditional apparel will be preserved by the villagers.
"Authorities should encourage the interest of locals in their costumes. They should delve into history and reintroduce other apparel designs that were once common among the people of Abyaneh," he said.
Ahmad Daniali, deputy for management development at Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, highlighted the historical value of Abyaneh and said the age-old village is eligible to obtain international status.
"The authorities will hold negotiations to prepare a deserving documentation," he said.
During the ceremony, the apparel inscription tablet was unveiled, locals recited folk songs, tailors of native costumes were honored and a photo and apparel exhibition opened in the village.
Located on the foothills of Karkas Mountains, 40 km northwest of Natanz in Isfahan Province, Abyaneh is considered incomparable to any other place in the world in terms of the beauty and splendor of its traditional architecture.
