The historical textures of 10 villages in Hawraman, a mountainous region in Kordestan Province in western Iran, have been inscribed on the National Heritage List.
"With the inscription of Galin, Halvan, Tekeyeh-ye Hashmiz, Dulab, Takhteh, Vasi-ye Sofla, Vasi-ye Olya, Shian, Zhan, and Bozlaneh villages on NHL, the number of enlisted villages in the province reached 13," said Pouya Talebnia, director of Hawraman cultural landscapes, IRNA reported.
Hawraman Takht, Palangan and Zhivar villages were already on the list.
"The stepped architecture, the intact structure of historical buildings and 'Sabat' [special corridors built to cool down passageways] are among the features that make the villages unique and eligible for inscription," the official said.
He added that cultural ceremonies and rituals, such as special methods of raisin production in Dulab Village, are the other characteristics making the villages special.
"Receiving a national status can contribute to the development of tourism infrastructures in the region while also preparing it to receive international stature," Talebnia added.
The age-old Hawraman region is stretched across Sarvabad, Sanandaj and Kamyaran counties in Kordestan Province and Paveh, Javanroud, Nowdeshah and Nowsud counties in Kermanshah Province.
Kordestan is home to over 1,500 identified heritage elements, including 763 historical structures, eight natural and 49 spiritual heritage sites as well as eight moveable heritage items.
