A two-day rally of half-a-century-old cars was launched at Niavaran Cultural Complex in north Tehran on Thursday.

Co-organized by Touring and Automobile Club of Iran and authorities of  Niavaran complex, the event was aimed at promoting tourism.

Unlike regular rallies, this event had nothing to do with speed, CHTN reported.

The rally helped authorities identify classic cars throughout the country to preserve them as items of heritage value.

The rally had 100 participants, including drivers and map-readers in 31 classic cars.

According to the report, the participants passed through Qom Province, Kashan and Natanz, and spent a night at the historical village of Abyaneh in Isfahan Province.

On the way back, drivers visited the attractions of Abyaneh and Sialk historical hill, before driving back to Tehran.

The participants were finally judged and scored by a jury comprising experts, based on their adherence to driving standards and map reading skills.

Overtaking and ignoring any of the driving rules are among negative points defined in the  scoring guidelines.
