The first Tehran-Jahrom flight was inaugurated on Thursday, awakening the long idle Jahrom airport in Fars Province. The airport hosted an ATR flight from Tehran’s Mehrabad International Ariport for the first time on Thursday morning, after years of halting operations, Iranair.com reported. Reportedly, Jahrom Airport has zero income, while its annual expenses exceed 2 billion rials ($500,000). Jahrom airport has been undergoing renovations over the past four years. “However, extending the airport area by 80 hectares, organizing the passenger lobby, restoring the office building and landing strips are among plans set to further equip the airport,” Mohammad Reza Rezaei, the head of Majlis Development Commission who attended the inaugural event at Mehrabad airport, said.  The ATR aircraft is one of the 20 airplanes Iran Air has purchased from the French-Italian planemaker in April, completing a post-sanctions shopping list that also includes 100 Airbus and 80 Boeing jets.
