To develop ecotourism in Isfahan, a large campsite will be set up in the vicinity of Maranjab Desert to address the issue of lodging in the province's most popular natural destination.

According to Mohsen Yar-Mohammadian, tourism deputy at the provincial office of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, the project is in its final stages and Isfahan's largest eco-camp will become operational in late November, ISNA reported.

"With over 2,000 eco-lodges, Isfahan is a leading province in terms of offering eco-friendly and traditional accommodation, but better plans are needed to make the best use of the potential," he said.

Maranjab Desert in Aran-o-Bidgol County is a popular destination for ecotourists interested in desert landscapes. Over the past year, more than 100,000 people have visited the region.

However, challenges such as lack of appropriate lodging and safe roads are impeding the development of ecotourism in the region.

Pointing to the large number of road accidents in Maranjab, Yar-Mohammadian said the conditions of the roads are unacceptable and urged relevant organizations to help renovate it.

Lack of adequate road signs, especially at dangerous bends, and the substandard width of Maranjab road have caused numerous accidents.

Only a week ago, about 16 people were injured in five accidents within 24 hours.

"We are currently negotiating with the Ministry of Roads to find a solution to this problem," he said, stressing that such incidents should not ruin the experience of tourists visiting the region.

Organizing services in Maranjab region is a priority of Isfahan's tourism officials, which include construction of lodging places, establishment of police stations and extension of emergency services.
