A new cruise terminal at Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi is designed to celebrate the UAE’s cultural heritage, Travel News Digest reported.

The ground has been broken and the project is due to be completed in 2016. The new building, which covers 8,000 sq meters, will have all the key passenger facilities together with souvenir shops, restaurants and office facilities on a mezzanine level.

According to Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), Zayed Port welcomed 75 cruise vessel calls with 189,000 passengers, in 2013/2014.

Sultan Al Dhaheri, the acting Executive Director, Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA) Abu Dhabi said, “It is a statement of just how serious Abu Dhabi is about cruise tourism.”
