A ship carrying South Korean tourists arrived in Bandar Shahid Bahonar in Bandar Abbas on Thursday.

The tourists were welcomed by a group of provincial officials from Hormozgan Province, IRNA reported.

Saleh Daryanavard, a deputy at the Hormozgan Governor General’s Office who was present in the welcoming ceremony said the South Korean tourists took the marine Silk Road in an effort to revive this important and historic trade route, adding that, it was once one of the major routes for economic and cultural exchanges among different peoples, and this potential still exists even today.

Meanwhile, Abbas Norouzi, the provincial head of the Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism (ICHHT) said the Hanbda vessel carried 150 individuals on board out of which 20 were tourists and the remaining were mostly students of the South Korean naval forces.

“Last year, the tourists had taken the Silk Road by land and this year they had made their trip by sea, passing through China, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. They stopped at Bandar Abbas as their final destination.  They will also be visiting Isfahan and Shiraz during their stay in Iran,” he added.

Fans and wicker baskets were presented to the tourists as gifts together with information materials on Hormozgan’s attractions.
