“Tourism contributes to a 5.6% share of the country’s GDP,” ISNA reported quoting Morteza Rahmani Movahed, deputy of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO), on October 20.
“The tourism industry which accounts for 5.1% employment globally, directly and indirectly, is one of the main employment generators in the world today” Rahmani Movahed said in the closing ceremony of the first International Scientific-Strategic Conference on Tourism Development for I.R. of Iran.
“Tourism contributes to 6% of the total exports and 9% of the worlds’ GDP,” he added.
The number of tourists visiting Iran experienced a growth from 4.07 million in the Iranian calendar year 1391 (ended March 20, 2013), to 4.8 m in 1392 (ended March 20, 2014).
During the past year, the government endeavored to provide suitable grounds for foreign tourists and the future plans are reflected in the country’s 6th five-year economic development plan.
