Safety is a key factor that can draw tourists in droves. As such, travelers to the Caspian Sea coast in Mazandaran Province will now be able to sign up for accident insurance.

The insurance is available on an hourly, daily and weekly basis, said Alireza Younesi, the deputy to Mazandaran Governor Rabie Fallah Jelodar.

The services provided by the insurance are covered by Iran Insurance Company and Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization’s office in Mazandaran, IRNA reported.

Ensuring people’s safety and security is of utmost importance. Therefore, it is imperative that involved organizations cooperate fully, Younesi said.

The news comes just before the beginning of summer holidays, which usually marks the rush of travelers to Iran’s northern shores. Over 90% of travelers who visit Mazandaran use the beaches.

He emphasized that lifeguards, members of the Red Crescent Society and police forces will be present all along the province’s shores—even the no-swimming zones. Over 500 areas have been designated as such due to safety concerns.

According to the statistics of Iranian Forensic Medicine Organization, the number of people who drowned in 2014 dropped by 52% to 98 individuals compared to 2013, when 182 individuals died.

Raising public awareness toward the dangers of swimming is necessary to reduce accidental deaths. In addition, lifeguard facilities must be upgraded to meet international standards.
