The capacity of Iran’s hotels must increase by at least 3 folds in order to prepare for the tourist influx, head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) Masud Soltanifar told Mehr News.

To be able to accommodate 20 million tourists a year by 2026, the number of four- and five-star hotels must increase from 130 to 400, Soltanifar asserted. “To that end, the ICHHTO is ready to help investors in any possible way.”

The official pointed out that global tourism generates $1,500 billion annually, and said that with proper management and planning Iran can and must raise its 0.5% share of the revenue to at least 3%.

“By constructing hotels equipped with modern facilities and providing quality services, Iran can increase its tourism income.”

Using modern airplanes, and learning how to treat foreigners with different cultural backgrounds are also important factors that can help boost the country’s tourism revenue, Soltanifar added.
