Late last winter, director general of Tehran Cultural Heritage Rajabali Khosro-Abadi and a number of cultural heritage officials visited Pasal Palace on Nelson Mandela (commonly known as Jordan) Street, Tehran and announced that the palace is devoid of heritage values and thus could not be inscribed on the national heritage list. However, on April 18 - International Day on Monuments and Sites - cultural heritage deputy Mohammad Hassan Talebian voiced his objection to Khosro-Abadi’s comments. “The matter should be handled by registration experts,” Talebian told Mehr news agency. “Registration of Pasal Palace should be first reviewed by the Supreme Council of Urban Planning and Architecture.” The palace has a unique architectural style which has piqued the interest of the council, which has consequently asked the Tehran Municipality to protect the edifice.
