An illegal excavation in Kazerun County, Fars Province was thwarted by the Heritage Protection Unit of provincial ICHHTO (Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization), CHTN quoted the public relations office of the organization. The protection unit was dispatched to the location following a tip-off. Upon seeing the law enforcement, the heavily-armed criminals opened fire and fled the scene. An officer was injured in the process and was quickly taken to a nearby hospital. Governor of Fars Seyed Mohammad Ahmadi, who has made the prosecution of the criminals his top priority, made sure the injured officer was transferred to a well-equipped hospital in Shiraz Province. According to the commander of provincial Heritage Protection Unit Colonel Safari, coordination is made between police and judiciary bodies to bring the culprits to justice.
