Museums Protest

In protest against the horrendous assault inflicted by ISIS on Mosul museum in Iraq, Iranian museums are asked to close down for thirty minutes on March 6. The request was made by national committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in Iran in the 13th congress of archaeology, CHTN reported. In another show of condemnation to the actions of the terrorist group, Iranian members of ICOM gathered in Iran National Museum on Saturday, March 1, and declared their manifesto denouncing the attack on history and civilization. To remain silent against such acts, they stressed, is in a denial of human evolution of culture. The manifesto, signed by the head of Iran’s cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO), along with Iranian museum curators, and foreign tourists visiting the museum, has been sent to three international officials in the field of heritage and tourism including the director general of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, the Iraqi minister of tourism and antiquities, Liwa’ Smaysim, and Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
