Passenger Train Services Start on New Northern Route

Trains operated on the Tehran-Tabriz-Sharafkhaneh-Salmas route and back as of August 7, according to the director general of Azarbaijan Region’s Railway Organization.
“These trains have the capacity to carry 120 passengers on each trip. Trains will travel from Tehran three days a week, namely Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays, at 8:10 p.m. After they reach Tabriz, they will head to Sharafkhaneh Port in East Azarbaijan Province’s Shabestar County and Salmas County in West Azarbaijan Province on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays,” Mohammad Reza Qorbani was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
The official noted that trains will depart from Tabriz toward Salmas at 1:35 p.m. on the aforementioned days and head back to Tabriz the same day.
“After arriving in Tabriz, the round trip to Tehran will take place at 5:30 p.m. on the same day,” he added.
Qorbani said these trains will also stop at other stations along the route.
