A total of 5,220 domestic flights were operated by 16 airlines at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport during the month to Jan. 20, 2020.
Iran’s flag carrier, Iran Air, had the highest share of total flights with 907 flights, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development's news service reported citing data from Iran Civil Aviation Organization.
Iran Air, also known as Homa, was followed by Aseman Airlines with 658 flights, Mahan Airlines with 648 flights, Zagros Airlines with 505, Ata Airlines with 424 flights, Caspian Airlines with 347 flights, Qeshm Air with 333 flights, Iran Air Tours with 268 flights, Varesh Airlines with 237 flights, Kish Air with 231 flights, Taban with 170 flights, Karun Airlines with 149 flights, Meraj Airlines with 145 flights, Sepehran Airlines with 89 flights, Saha Airlines with 66 flights and Pouya Air with 43 flights.
Mehrabad ranked ninth from among 50 leading airports of 26 countries in the Middle East and North Africa region in 2018.
Until 2007, Mehrabad was Tehran's primary airport in handling both international and domestic flights, but after 2007, international flights were transferred to Imam Khomeini International Airport.
All international flights in Tehran are currently served by Imam Khomeini International Airport while Mehrabad handles all domestic flights.
