In the latest update of FIFA ranking after the Russia World Cup, Iran is still atop the Asian teams despite one notch down in the overall ranking.

According to the list released on FIFA website on Thursday, Iran lost the 32nd place and is now 33rd. Australia, which had relinquished the top spot to Iran in the August rankings, remains as Asia’s second best team at 43rd while Japan moved up one spot to 54th place as the third team of the continent.

South Korea has reached 55th position, up two places, and is the continent’s fourth best. Saudi Arabia completes Asia’s top five, moving down one spot to 71st.

World Cup winner France grabbed the top spot of the world ranking after the tournament but now has to share the place with Belgium, which has increased its points after victories in the UEFA Nations League in the past two weeks.

All-time record holder of most World Cups won, Brazil, is trailing on third place. Uruguay, England, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, Denmark and Argentina are on the fourth to tenth places respectively.

The UEFA Nations League now underway has helped European teams to improve their rank while Asian teams can benefit from the AFC Asian Cup in January to improve their positions.
