Iran’s women volleyball team will play Kazakhstan in its first match in the 2018 Asian Women’s Volleyball Cup in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on September 16.
Placed in Pool C, Iran is drawn with Kazakhstan, Australia and the Philippines. Facing Kazakhstan in the first place will be tough as the Central Asian team is the runner up of the 2016 edition and twice bronze winner in 2012 and 2014.
Iran’s second game on September 17 will be against the Philippines making their debut in the games and the third match will be against Australia on the next day, ISNA reported.
The task of the Australians does not seem to be difficult as the best place for the Aussies was the 7th rank in the 2008 games in Thailand. It will be their second presence in the tournament while Iran has been in the games since 2010, the second edition of the biennial event.
In the history of the competition, Iranian women have never climbed the podium. The 6th place in the 2016 games in Vietnam was their best so far.
China with four gold and one silver medal is the team with most titles. The second most-honored team is the host Thailand with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Pool A includes Japan, Thailand and South Korea while in the Pool B are China, Vietnam and Taiwan.
The ten-team event will kick off on September 16 and wraps up a week later.
