Handball Team Starts Asian Games With Decisive Victory

Iran handball team started its Asian Games with power hammering Malaysia 55-11 in the first game on Wednesday.

Salman Barbat scored as much as the whole Malaysia team winning 11 points single-handedly.

In the first half Iran finished the game 29-5 and continued its dominance in the second half to clinch a 26-6 win.

Despite the decisive victory, the result puts Iran in second place after Qatar. Powerhouse Qatar thrashed Malaysia 64-11 on Monday and with a higher goal difference stands above Iran atop the table with Iran trailing and Malaysia at the bottom of the three-team Group A.

Iran and Qatar will meet Friday as the last group stage match over the table-top spot.

Iran national team manager Zoran Kastratović said after the match that their strongest rival at the tournament is Qatar while most of its players come from other countries.

The Montenegrin-Macedonian coach added that it is possible to face Qatar twice in the games as top-two teams of each group will advance to the next round of the continental games in handball category.

Though the Asian games officially start on Saturday, team games kicked off earlier.
