Once linked to La Liga side move, Iranian versatile winger of the Östersunds team Saman Ghoddos is on the way to Ligue 1 of France.
According to French news outlets on Sunday, the Swedish club agreed on Ghoddos move to Rennes for 3.5 million Euros ($4m) with 20% of the contract value in case of resale.
Starting the Sunday game for the Östersunds from the bench, Ghoddos stepped into the pitch in the late minutes of the second half but that did not stop him from scoring a goal against Kalmar FF in the Allsvenskan, Swedish top football league. His goal in the 88th minute of the match was a game changer as it turned the result to 1-0 in favor of Östersunds.
Minutes later, Ghoddos curved the ball from the corner of the pitch where Patrick Kpozo’s header in extra minutes netted the second goal for his club.
But what came after the match was quite a shock for the club fans as Ghoddos announced the game as his last match for the club.
Moving to a top-flight European league was what the Iranian winger referred to as his ultimate goal in his career. Now with the move to Rennes, his dream may come true.
Stade Rennais FC commonly known as Rennes finished fifth in the last season of the Ligue 1 season where Paris Saint Germain finished first. The team participates in the Europa League in the current season too.
Last week the newly La Liga-joined club, SD Huesca had Ghoddos under the radar but the move was canceled as Östersunds and the Spanish club did not come to an agreement. But the move to the French side was confirmed by the Swedish club’s chairman Daniel Kindberg after the match.
Also, L’equipe website of France confirmed the deal and published its details including value.
Ghoddos has played for Iran national football team since last year. Appearing in 11 matches, the midfielder has scored one goal.
He was a member of Team Melli during the 2018 World Cup and made his World Cup debut against Morocco on June 15, winning a free kick that led to a goal for Iran’s first World Cup win in twenty years.
