 Italian Beats US World Champion

As the wonder of the tournament, surprise package Italian Frank Chamizo defeated four-time world champion and 2012 London Olympic gold winner, Jordan Burroughs of the US in the final of 74kg class to take  gold.

Nearly four months ago, Jordan Burroughs posted a photo on Instagram with the caption “If you want to be the king, you have to beat the king.” The Italian did just that on Saturday, getting his revenge against the London Olympic champion in front of a sold out Bağcılar Olympic Sport Hall in Istanbul.

Chamizo, the two-time world champion was looking to avenge his loss to Burroughs from May’s Beat the Streets in New York City.

Ysar Dogu cup is named after Turkish renowned Greco-roman and freestyle wrestler Yasar Dogu. Gold medal of 1948 London Olympic Games and 1951 Helsinki World Championships are among his trophies in freestyle division.

He won gold at the 1974 Prague and 1940 Istanbul European Championships in the Greco-roman category. The Istanbul games ended on Sunday.
