Men’s Team Beats Germany, Women Lose to China

Iran men’s team got its second win at the Sitting Volleyball World Championships in the Netherlands on Monday.

According to the official website of the event, Iran humbled world number six Germany in three straight sets.

Overwhelmed by Iran, the Germans accepted the loss in the first set 25-20. In the second the Iranians vociferously stormed into the court and beat the rivals 25-9. In the third set Germany showed no effort to win and lost 25-13.

In their opening match Iranians lined up against Japan and finished the game 3-0. It did not take much from Iran to hammer Japan 25-8, 25-9 and 25-16 with high point gaps in all three sets.

 Women’s Team

The women’s team from Iran lost its second match of the tournament to the Asian champion and Rio Olympics runner up China 3-0 (25-15, 25-17 and 25-18). The Iranians had defeated Slovenia 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-18) on Sunday in their opening game.

The team is sixth in the world ranking after the Netherlands in the fifth place. The US, China, Brazil and Ukraine are first to fourth respectively.

The best 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams from around the globe are competing for the 2018 World Championships (started 15 July), and a ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Sitting Volleyball World Championships visits five cities across the Netherlands. Over 300 athletes are involved in the quadrennial tournament. The men’s preliminary round will take place in Venlo and Eindhoven before the semifinals and finals in the Hague on July 21-22. Arnhem hosts the women’s preliminary round before heading to Rotterdam for the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals July 19-21.
