Iran Humbles Macau, Advances to Next Round

Iran U19 national volleyball team humbled Macau 3-0 in the last group stage match at the 2018 Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship in Bắc Ninh Province, Vietnam, on Tuesday.

The team rooted Macau in three straight sets and advanced to the next round, ISNA reported.

In style the U19 team finished the first set 25-11 with 14 points ahead of the rival. Coming to the second set Macau pushed to fill the point gap but could not get any closer but 25-18. In the third set Iranian girls ended hopes for Macau finishing the set 25-12 and advanced to the next round of the continental event.

Prior to the clash against Macau Iran also held two other matches against group mates, Hong Kong and Australia.

The opener game for Iran was against Hong Kong. Iran lost the first set 25-19, but dominated the next three sets to make a marvelous comeback. In the second set Iran thrashed Macau 25-13 then made a 25-18 win in the third set. The fourth set finished similar to the third set 25-18 for the good of Iran.

In their second match in the group stage, Iranian girls entered the court to battle the Aussies. Starting the game in form, they won the first two sets 25-15. The almost-won match turned into a thriller in the third set where Australia edged Iran 25-23 to win the set.

The fourth set was also a win for the Aussies who reached the point of 25 while Iran made 21. In the fifth set Australia ended thrills for Iran scoring the 15th point as Iran made 12.

The 19th Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship is a biennial international volleyball tournament organized by the Asian Volleyball Confederation with Volleyball Federation of Vietnam for the women’s under-19 national teams of Asia.

Tournaments have been organized every two years since 1980. The event serves as the World Championship qualifier, where the top two teams qualify for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship. It is underway in Bắc Ninh Province, Vietnam, June 10-17.
