Ehsan Haddadi won the silver medal in the fifth round of the International Athletics Association Federation Diamond League in Oslo on Thursday.
In his second attempt Haddadi threw the discus 67.55 meters as his best during the games to win silver, IRNA reported.
Gold medal of the games went to Lithuanian Andrius Gudzius with a jaw-dropping 69.04m throw. The Swede Daniel Stahl won bronze for a 67.04m shot.
The Iranian first set a 65.41m record and to improve it he escalated his second record to the medal winning 67.55m record.
In his next attempts Haddadi’s performance deteriorated. In the third and fourth attempts he threw the discus 65.75m and 66.17m respectively.
Ehsan failed to make correct throws in his two final shots and both attempts were disqualified to leave Ehsan with the record of 67.55 meters that earned him silver.
The games were Haddadi’s second appearance in the current season of Diamond League games after partaking in the Rome Diamond League on May 31. Haddadi clinched the bronze medal in the Italian capital with a 65.93m.
The latest result by the Olympic silver medalist can be interpreted as an improvement and also an attempt to get back on track.
In the season’s opening games at Chula Vista in San Diego, California, Haddadi’s inspiring performance went to make a record of 68.85m and won him the gold medal of the tournament. The IAAF Diamond League is an annual series of elite track and field athletic competitions. The series began with the 2010 IAAF Diamond League. It was designed to replace the IAAF Golden League, which had been held annually since 1998.
While the Golden League was created to increase the profile of the leading European athletics competitions, the Diamond League’s aim is to “enhance the worldwide appeal of athletics by moving outside Europe for the first time.”
