Iran cadets’ team came in third at the Romania Cadet Championships in Bucharest in the freestyle division.
The team won three gold, one silver and one bronze medals, IRNA reported.
Six cadet wrestlers from Iran attended the tournament with five out of six leaving the stage with a medal around their necks.
Lightweight Mehdi Veisi in the 48kg class first went on the mattress against his countryman Abbas Ebrahimzadeh and won. Beating the Macedonian wrestler in the second match, Veisi secured his place in the final game against a Romanian rival to win gold.
Sajjad Goudarzi in 55kg beat three rivals from Romania to ensure a place in the final game against a Georgian contender. And it was the Iranian wrestler who won and clinched the second gold medal.
The third and last gold medal of cadets’ team was hung around the neck of heavyweight Amir-Hossein Zare in 110kg division. Zare first tested his mettle against a Kazakh fighter and had his hand held high up as winner when the game ended.
Zare overcame a second contender from Slovakia with TKO and advanced to the semifinals. He also eased through the semis against a Georgian 10-0 and then defeated Bulgarian contester to win gold.
The only silver of the team went to Sohrab Adham-Khalili in 65kg weight class. After resting in the first round, Sohrab thrashed Georgian rival 10-0. In the semis, he ended the hopes of the Kazakh to cement his place in the final where he faced another Kazakh rival but this time lost and took silver.
Iran also won one bronze medal. Abbas Ebrahimzadeh in 48kg had the chance to fight for bronze medal in repechage clashes after his countryman Mehdi Veisi went to the finals. Ebrahimzadeh added a bronze medal to Iran’s tally.
The Romanian capital is hosting the Cadet Championship from May 31-June 3.
