Poomsae Team Finishes 2nd in Ho Chi Minh City

Iran poomsae delegation secured second place in the 5th Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on Friday by collecting 13 medals.

The three-man team including Ali Salmani, Akbar Forouzan and Rahmat Nazari won the gold medal in team category, IRNA reported.

Salmani also won gold in the 31-40 years old individual competition while Hedayat Aryanfar grabbed gold in the +65-years old division.

The women’s team of Iran including Atousa Farahmand, Sona Razzaqi and Seyyedeh Masoumeh Hosseini were top in their division and won gold to raise the total gold medals count to four.

Farahmand and Marjan Salahshouri partaking in the individual women’s poomsae competitions each won silver.

Kourosh Bakhtiar, Amir-Reza Mehraban, Nader Khodamardi and Seyyed Hossein Mousavinia each took bronze in their respective age classes.

Fatemeh Asadpour bagged the only bronze medal for the female delegation from Iran in the individual women’s competition. Also the other three-member women’s team won bronze.

Taekwondo powerhouse South Korea was the champion of the games in total medal count for both men and women’s teams. Taiwan finished third after Iran. Korean term poomsae, meaning “form” or “pattern” is used to refer to martial arts forms that are typically used in Korean martial arts such as Taekwondo. It is a systematic, prearranged sequence of martial techniques that is performed either with or without the use of a weapon.
