Iran’s Greco-Roman military wrestling team finished second at the World Military Wrestling Championships in Moscow on Sunday.
In the 33rd edition of the games, the Iranians bagged five medals (one gold, one silver and three bronze).
According to IRNA, Mohammad Noorbakhsh in 63kg won gold by overcoming a Russian rival in the final.
Arman Alizadeh in the 87kg lost the final game to a Russian contender and won silver. Wrestlers from Algeria and Azerbaijan tied the third place.
Shirzad Beheshti, Ali-Akbar Heidari and Behnam Mehdizadeh won bronze in the 60kg, 97kg, and 130kg classes respectively.
Collecting 209 points, the host country emerged at the top while Iran with 132 and Azerbaijan with 119 points finished second and third.
Two days earlier, the male freestyle delegation finished second in the same event on May 18.
The squad bagged two gold, three silver and one bronze to stand behind Russia.
The International Military Sports Council (CISM), which is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world, held the tournament.
CISM, as the organizer of sporting events for the armed forces, has 136 member countries and is one of the global sports organizations in which the largest number of disciplines is represented.
It is reported that 153 athletes, including 98 male and 55 female, from 22 nations took part in this year’s event in Moscow.
