Iran Wins All 3 Gold, Silver, Bronze Medals

Domestic snooker players dominated the medal table for Asian Snooker Championships in Tabriz by bagging all the three gold, silver and bronze medals on Saturday.

According to the Snooker Federation of Iran website, it is the first time in the history of the sport that one country collects all the medals.

In the final round of 34th edition of the continental games, Amir Sarkhosh and Ali Gharegozlou lined up against each other and Sarkhosh won by hammering his compatriot 6-2 to grab the gold and hand the silver to his rival.

The phenomenal Gharegozlou who experienced his second attendance in an international event believes he deserved the silver. “It is joyful to be in the finals but I have to accept that Sarkhosh had a whale of the game,” Gharegozlou said after the final match. “It was my second experience with the games and one thing that is significant, is winning all three medals by Iranians.”

Ehsan Heidarinejad came in third to win bronze.

Alamgir Shaikh, vice-president of the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports admired the disciplinary and order in hosting the event.

“Iran BS federation has done a great job by hosting the event”, Shaikh said. “Following what we saw from the Iranian players, they sure deserved the top ranks of the tournament.” “I am grateful of your apropos hosting and good memories will company me to my homeland,” he added.

Tabriz hosted the cup to celebrate the announcement of the city as the tourism capital of the Islamic World in 2018. Snooker players from Qatar, Pakistan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Palestine, Iraq, Myanmar, Iraq, India and Syria participated in the tournament.
