Khuzestan Students Win Greco-Roman Gold in Marrakech

Khuzestan Province wrestling team, representing Iran, took the first place in the International School Sport Federation Gymnasiade 2018 in Marrakech, Morocco.

The team bagged five gold and three silver medals to secure first place. Alireza Hajivand in 45kg, Amir Abdi in 51kg, Milad Rezanejad in 61kg, Alireza Arghash in 71kg and Alireza Moradi were the golden boys, IRNA reported.

Ali Oskou in 55kg, Hassan Qorbani in 92kg and heavyweight Saeed Hassanpour in 110kg category took silver.

National teams from Ukraine and Hungary were in the second and third places of the Gymnasiade Greco-Roman competitions respectively.

The Gymnasiade, or World Gymnasiade, is an international multi-sport event organized by the International School Sport Federation. It is the largest event among many other sport events held by the ISF.

The tournament’s motto is ‘Education Through Sport and it brings together young students from around the world to experience the spirit of international competition, fair play, friendship and cultural diversity.

The event opened on May 2 and will end on May 9.

First edition of the Gymnasiade was held in 1974 in Wiesbaden, Germany and featured only gymnastics and swimming.
