Women Classic Wrestling Listed in UWW Calendar

United World Wrestling has approved the inclusion of World Women Classic Wrestling Championships hosted by Iran in the calendar of the world wrestling body on April 28.

The decision was made in the recent meeting between UWW President Nenad Lalovic and the head of Iran Wrestling Federation, Rasoul Khadem, the official website IWF wrote.

Slated for July 12-13, the tournament will be the first international tournament for women hosted by Iran.

After Iran, Lebanon has shown interest in hosting the games. IWF is in talks with European countries to expand the hosting of the tournament across the green continent.

Iran will be in charge of delivering the name of bidding countries to UWW to be evaluated and included in the calendar, if they have proper hosting conditions.

The classic style is one of non-Olympian women wrestling styles, which is managed by UWW.

Following efforts made by Iran Wrestling Federation, UWW certified the game since the beginning of the current year and set out the rules as well dress codes for the participants.

Khadem has improved the sport’s diplomacy during his years with the federation. On Friday, the federation confirmed that the right to host Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup, which was taken from the country, has been restored after Khadem’s talks with Lalovic.
