Iran Regains Wrestling World Cup Hosting Rights

After holding talks with Nenad Lalovic, the president of United World Wrestling, on Thursday, Rasoul Khadem, the president of Iran Wrestling Federation, stated that the hosting rights for the 2018 Greco-Roman World Cup have been given back to the country.

The games were taken from Iran after problems emerged in the management board of the Iranian federation and because the event’s venue in Ahvaz was not prepared, IRNA reported.

However, talks have seemingly satisfied UWW about Iranian commitments and the body has agreed to hold the event in Iran.

The federation is looking for a more suitable city to host the games and reviewing sponsorship rights that could help ease the financial burden of the tournament.

Tehran and Abadan are currently the vying to host the games that will be held in December.
