Daniel Ricciardo is seeking a staggering new pay deal and has opened talks with Ferrari and Mercedes over a possible switch.

That is the sensational claim coming out of Italy on Tuesday, which reports Ricciardo wants a £36million ($50m), two-year contract at whichever team he ends up at next season, Express reported

The Australian is currently in talks with Red Bull over extending his stay at the UK-based team.

But Ricciardo will not hang around for long if team principal Christian Horner goes cold on the deal.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim Ricciardo has also told Ferrari and Mercedes of his contract demands, in case he becomes available.

The 28-year-old has continued to impress in the Red Bull car this season - winning the Chinese Grand Prix last time out.

But with his contract up at the end of 2018, there appears to be a three-way battle to secure his services.

Gazzetta claim Ricciardo wants a, £18m ($25m) per season to take him through to the end of 2020.

Ferrari, which is expected to drop Kimi Raikkonen from roster next year, currently pays the Finn £6.1m ($8.5m) a season.

Mercedes is too likely to be on the lookout for a second driver during the F1 off-season, with Valtteri Bottas’s deal expiring at the end of the current season.

However, Red Bull principle Horner is adamant Australian Ricciardo will pen fresh terms with his current team.

“I think Daniel’s happy in the [Red Bull] environment,” Horner told Formula1.com. “If we can give him a car like we did [in China], why would he want to be anywhere else?”
