The women’s team from Iran claimed the top place in the Fajr International Taekwondo Championships in Karaj, Alborz Province, on April 22.
According to IRNA, the team finished first and women teams from Azerbaijan and Afghanistan took second and third places.
First place was clinched by winning seven gold, six silvers and four bronze medals.
The 29th Men and 10th Women Fajr Championships were held at Enqelab Hall in Karaj. Twenty teams from 12 nations namely, Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, Syria, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Lebanon, Oman and India attended.
After the women’s championships, Syria was awarded the cup of morality. Mahroo Kamrani from Iran was chosen best coach of the tournament. Also, Fatemeh Agha-Beigloo, Seyyedeh Zahra Samadian and Roshanak Hosseini (all from Iran) won awards for most valuable player, best referee and best manager respectively.
The Fajr event is rated as G1 in the calendar of World Taekwondo Federation; the rating means gold, silver and bronze winners of the tournament will receive 10, 6, and 3.6 points to improve their Olympic rankings.
Alborz Province will host the Asian Taekwondo Club Championships April 23-24. Nine teams from Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan will participate. G1 rating too is considered for the event.
Two Iranian clubs claimed the first and second places of the previous edition. Varamin Municipality in south Tehran won the third consecutive title of the tournament last year.
