    Karateka Vishgahi Wins Bronze in Austria

    Iranian Karateka Jasem Vishgahi won the bronze medal at Karate 1 Series A in Salzburg, Austria, on Sunday.

    Vishgahi defeated Matteo Cianchetti of Italy 10-0 at his first match in -84 kg category. In his next match, Vishgahi competed against Aleksandr Kosyak of Ukraine. 

    In a convincing win, Vishgahi hammered Kosyak 11-2 and prepared to face the Croatian rival in the next round, according to the result on World Karate Federation website, Wkf.net.

    In a close competition, Vishgahi could earn three points from his match against the Croatian Mateo Situm and give one point away, which made Vihsgahi the winner.

    Vishgahi continued his consecutive winnings against Asiman Gurbanli of Azerbaijan in his next match and finished the match 6-0. But then he lost his next match to Herolind Nishevci from Kosovo 2-0 and was forced to go for bronze medal on repecharge.

    To win the bronze, Vishgahi had to win two matches against Ukrainian Taras Herchuk and Slobodan Bitevic from Serbia respectively.

    In two consecutive wins, Vishgahi first defeated the Ukrainian rival 8-0 and then the Serbian 5-1 to grab the bronze medal of the tournament. 

    Vishgahi competed in the Doha 2006 Asian Games in the 75 kg division and won the gold medal. He also won the gold medals of the 2010 Asian Games and of the 2006 World Karate Championships in Tampere, Finland, as well as the silver medal of 2002 World Karate Championships in Madrid, Spain.
