Taftian Among Men’s 60m Top 24 Runners

Hassan Taftian, Iranian runner of 60-meter indoor category, qualified for the second round of Birmingham Indoor Championships on Saturday.

According to the International Association of Athletics Federation, Taftian finished second in heat 3 of the races for the 60-meter run to enter the semifinals, along with 23 other runners, which was held last night but the results of which were not announced at the time of going to print.

Taftian is among the top five fastest men of the world in the indoor 60-meter relay in the recent ranking released by IAAF.

The list was released after the 28th Asian Indoor Athletics Games was held on February 1-3 in Tehran where Taftian clocked 6.51 seconds as his best record. The fastest Iranian man won the gold and also set a new national record at the event.

Four athletes precede Taftian in the world ranking, three of which are from the US and one from China.

Christian Coleman is the first in the ranking with a record 6.34 seconds set in Albuquerque, a city in the US state of New Mexico, on Feb. 18, to become the fastest 60m runner in history. 

The IAAF World Indoor Championships got underway on March 1 with more than 600 athletes from over 140 countries and will finish on March 4.
