Iran’s women handball players emerged at the top in the Second West Asian Women Handball Championship in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday and won the first medal of the sport for the country.
Shahid Chamran Larestan club represented Iran in the event. The Iranian team started the campaign with a 43-8 win over Iraq on Feb. 15 and defeated Lebanon 29-19 in the second match on the following day, according to Asianhandball.org.
Qatar was the next rival for the women on Feb. 18 and the Iranians gained their third victory by scoring 38 goals and receiving 16.
On Monday, the team hammered the host country 28-15 to prepare for the final game against Syria.
Syria was no much for the strong Iran team that trounced for the Arab side 23-8 and finished the tournament with an unbeaten record.
The six-day and league-format competition has brought together the best female players from Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Qatar.
