Karaj city in Alborz Province, 40km west of Tehran, will host the 29th men and 10th women Fajr Open Taekwondo Cup, April 21-22.
So far 20 countries have said they will attend. The event is registered on the World Taekwondo Federation website and the points will be counted as 10 for the first winner, 6 for the second and 3.6 for the third persons. Points will be influential in the athletes’ Olympics ranking, Worldtaekwondo.org reported.
The tournament will be held in 8 senior male and female weight divisions. Each country is allowed to have maximum 4 athletes in each category.
In the previous edition of the games in the men’s section, 20 teams from Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Greece, India and Iraq attended.
Shahrdari (municipality) of Sari from Iran with six gold medals and one silver gained 84 points to win the cup, ILNA reported.
Can Home Appliances team from Iran was second with one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
A team from Afghanistan finished third by winning one silver and one bronze.
