The fastest Iranian man Hassan Taftian is among the top five fast men of the world in indoor 60-meter relay in the recent ranking released by the International Association of Athletics Federation.
The list was released after the 28th Asian Indoor Athletics Games which was held February 1-3 in Tehran where sprint runner Taftian clocked 6.51 seconds as his best record so far.
Four athletes precede Taftian in the list, three of which are from the US and one from China.
Christian Coleman is the first in the ranking with a record 6.37 seconds set on January 19 during the Clemson Invitational Track and Field games in Clemson in the US state of South Carolina. He also set the record of 6.47 at the same event to win two first places in the ranking.
However, he shares second place with Bingtian Su from China who also clocked 6.47 seconds at the International Athletics Federation World Indoor Tour in Karlsruhe, Germany, February 3.
Another American occupies fourth place with 6.48 seconds. Ronnie Baker set his record at the 2018 Millrose Games in New York, February 3.
Taftian has won several medals so far including gold in 100 meters at the 2012 Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Last July he became the first Iranian to ever win gold in 100 meters in an Asian Athletics Championships after finishing with 10.25 seconds at the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar, India.
He also has a gold medal in the 60m category at the Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2017.
