Ashkan Dejagah got a glimpse of his potential new Nottingham Forest team-mates in action on Tuesday.

According to the Nottingham Post, the Iranian winger was at the City Ground and posed for pictures with fans after watching the Reds’ 3-0 defeat to Preston.

Dejagah has been without a club since leaving German outfit Wolfsburg last summer, though he has recently played for his country in the build-up to the summer’s World Cup in Russia.

However, with the World Cup on the horizon, Dejagah is in need of regular football to prove his fitness.

He has previously been linked with a return to his homeland with Esteghlal, Tractor Sazi and Zob Ahan reportedly keen to sign him.

A move to the Qatar league was also mooted, but Dejagah wants to play in Europe after a three-year stint in the Middle East before going back to Wolfsburg a year ago.

“I’ve played in Al Arabi for three years but at the moment I’d rather play in a European team,” Dejagah said. “The 2018 World Cup is a great goal for me and I want to make sure I am fully prepared for the competition.”

Now, the 31-year-old is expected to complete the formalities of a free transfer switch to Forest in the in the Championship, the second tier of English football.

Dejagah spent two years at the English club Fulham between 2012 and 2014 and largely impressed at Craven Cottage with his speed, unpredictability and eye for the spectacular. He was named the fans’ Player of the Season. Since 2012, he has played in 44 matches for Team Melli and scored eight goals.
