Sharapova in Good Form for Australian Open

Shamil Tarpischev, president of the Russian tennis federation, is confident Maria Sharapova can go far at the Australian Open which starts on Monday.

According to Tennisworldusa.org, Sharapova will make her debut against Tatjana Maria and in the third round she could possibly face Angelique Kerber.

“Sharapova’s draw looks normal and although there will be no easy games, her tournament table is manageable and everything will depend on her”, Tarpischev told TASS. ‘A lot will depend on the degree of fatigue and the psychological condition.’

Last October Sharapova won her first title in more than two years at the Tianjin Open in China.

“If she demonstrates a good game, just like she did in China at the end of the previous season, Maria will be able to fight for the victory”, Tarpishchev added. “Knowing her will and seeing how she regains her physical shape, I can say that Sharapova can fight for the elite”.
