Ice climber Seyyed Emad Hosseini finished second in the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) Youth Championships in Malbun, Liechtenstein, January 5-7.

Hosseini took silver in the lead category after Goetz Lukas from Switzerland. Mehdi Taghikhani form Iran finished fourth in the same category. Korean Lim Hyeongsub filled the gap between Hosseini and Taghikhani to take third place, Varzesh3.com reported.

Lead climbing is a climbing technique used to ascend a route. This technique is predominantly used in rock climbing and involves a lead climber attaching themselves to a length of dynamic (elastic) climbing rope and ascending a route while periodically attaching protection (quickdraws or traditional protection) to the face of the route and clipping into it.

The lead climber must have another person acting as a belayer. The belayer has multiple roles; holding the rope in the event of a fall and paying out or taking up rope as the climber moves. Founded in 1932, the UIAA is the international federation for climbing and mountaineering. It represents the interests of over three million climbers and mountaineers from member federations across  continents. The UIAA has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1995.
