Greco-Roman Wrestlers Invited to Russia Tournament

Russian Wrestling Federation has invited Iran Greco-Roman wrestling team to participate in the International Ivan Poddubny Grand Prix.

Known as the biggest Greco-Roman tournament of Russia, the event is slated for January 18-21 in Krasnodar city.

The event is named after Ivan Maximovich Poddubny (1871-1949), a professional wrestler from the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union. He began his sports career around 1900 that lasted for about 40 years and lost only twice.

Iran’s Greco-Roman team finished second in the World Wrestling Championships in Paris in 2017. In the Tashkent 2014 Championships, Uzbekistan, the team finished first, Varzesh3.com reported.

Besides the Greco-Roman wrestlers, Iranian freestylers are also getting ready for the Takhti Cup, an annual international freestyle wrestling tournament, February 8-9 in Tabriz, East Azarbaijan Province, with the participation of 17 foreign teams.
