The city of Amol in northern Mazandaran Province will host the 1st International Fajr Chess Championships on February 5, 2018.
Twenty countries have so far announced their intention to attend, Tasnim News Agency reported.
Countries whose attendance has been finalized include Germany, Luxembourg, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Ukraine Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
Mehrdad Pahlavan-Zadeh, head of Iran Chess Federation, said 60 foreign players along with 340 domestic players are expected compete at the tournament.
“After placing the event in the Fide (World Chess Federation) website, several renowned chess players registered,” Pahlavan-Zadeh added.
Also Iran Chess Federation has held talks with countries such as France, Spain, Greece, Romania, India, Sweden, Czech Republic, Croatia, Bosnia and Sri Lanka and invited them to attend.
Oxin Recreational and Commercial Resort in Amol will host the event. Fajr tournament will be the 1st of the series as well as the first international chess championships to be held in Iran.
