Iranians bagged 13 medals on the first two days of the third Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai, December 11-17.
Hajar Safarzade, track runner of 100m, grabbed the first gold in the T12 running class on the first day, December 11, Varzesh3.com reported.
In the para powerlifting category Mohsen Bakhtiar and Alireza Izadi finished first in the 54kg and 49kg classes respectively.
Bakhtiar lifted 125kg in the first attempt successfully and continued to hit at his second and third weights with 149kg and 153kg weights.
Izadi handled 115kg, 125kg and 132kg in three successive attempts to win gold  and create a huge weight gap with the second place silver medalist from Kazakhstan who lifted 79kg.
Iran’s  first medal in table tennis was won by Aida Fazlnia. Defeated by her Japanese rival 3-0, Fazlnia downed the Kazak rival with the same result and qualified for bronze.
Men’s swimming team could be considered as the phenomena of the Iran delegation as swimmers won nine medals in different categories.
Erfan Esmaeili, Danial Mohsenian, Mohammad Karimzadeh, Masoud Mahmoudi and Alireze Amiri won five silver medals and Amir Sediqi, Ilia Kazemiyeh won two bronze. Amir-Hossein Sa’adati won two medals, silver and bronze, in two different categories.
Iran is attending the tournament with 116 athletes in seven fields including athletics, boccia, badminton, swimming, table tennis, powerlifting and goal ball.
According to the website of the games Aypgdubai2017.com, 800 athletes from 40 countries are competing and Iran has sent the biggest delegation.  The 3rd Asian Youth Para Games parallels the 2017 Asian Youth Games as a multi-sport event for Asian athletes with disability.
